Beach Hazards Statement issued May 23 at 3:20PM EDT until May 24 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Caribou ME * WHAT....The warm air temerpatures in the low 70s to upper 60s may cause people to underestimate the dangers of the cold water temperatures which are currently only in the mid 40s. * WHERE...Coastal Hancock and Coastal Washington Counties. * WHEN...From Friday morning through Friday evening. * IMPACTS...The cold temperatures can quickly cause hypothermia to anyone immersed in the water. Anyone on boast of paddle craft should use extreme caution to avoid this threat. A Beach Hazards Statement is issued when threats such as rip currents, longshore currents, sneaker waves and other hazards create life-threatening conditions in the surf zone. Caution should be used when in or near the water.
